East Farm has been in the hands of the Tory’s for 4 generations, since 1900. At that time it was mainly downland and an extensive system of livestock and arable farming was carried out. The Tory family have farmed this farm, Charisworth, Turnworth, and West Farm since World War II. East Farm was run by Randolph Tory, then later his son Randolph James and currently his grandson Norman Tory (my old man). The Farm is currently run as a mixed farm with 180 Holstein Friesians (for milk), a beef enterprise, and arable. The farm is approximately 600 acres on chalk land soil. Another farm is rented at Milborne St Andrew. Prior to 1980 the farm hosted a flock of Dorset Down sheep, these sheep could often be found at Local shows, as well as at the Royal Show where many prizes were won. Since the 1980’s the flock has been dispersed and the offspring can now be found at Turnworth Farm, where James Tory manages the flock. |
